there's a first time for everything!

Justin Bieber said it best.... Never say Never.

Did I really just quote the Biebs on my blog?!  Did I really just give him a nickname?!

This weekend BL and I went skiing for the very first time in North Carolina and had a blast!  I am sore beyond belief and wish I could put my jacket on without wincing, but it was a great time!

To summarize my adventure I would use one word: fall.  If there was an opportunity to fall, I took it.

Getting off of the lift: FALL
Going too fast: FALL
Getting too close to other skiers: FALL
Arriving at the bottom of the slope: FALL

I would venture to say I landed on my rump a minimum of 75 times on Sunday...and that is a kind estimate :)  Regardless, I enjoyed the adventure with my sweets and his colleagues and hope to do more fun day trips when we can.

Miscellany Monday

Happy Monday friends!  I hope you had a super weekend and savored every minute you could!  It's raining cats & dogs around here {what does that phrase even mean?!} so I'm at my desk wishing I was in sweats, under a blanket, by a fire, watching movies.

Is that asking too much!?

Anywho, thought I would gather some random musings and link up to the Miscellany Monday party at lowercase letters...

Miscellany Monday @
lowercase letters
...this weekend we had a lot of time with friends.  BL & I are beyond grateful for the friends we've been blessed with, and I love spending time with people who make me laugh!

...as per the above, we've been with a lot of people lately and haven't had a whole lot of 'us' time.  This makes me want to plan something fun for just us to do...any ideas?  Maybe a weekend away?  I could dream these plans up all. day. long.

...I'm currently in a debate with myself as to whether or not I should chop my hair.  I really like this cut but it would require saying goodbye to several inches, and I am just not sure I am ready.

...my nails...right now, I don't love the color I have on annnnd my nail polish is chipping.  Needless to say, it's driving me CRAZY!  I can't wait to get it off tonight & get some pretty color on in it's place :)

...speaking of pretty polish, have you seen the new Holland collection coming from OPI?  I am in love with these pretty colors!!

So that's about all for now...I hope you're having a wonderful Monday :)

Tales of TTC {part two}

Significance of the Second Line

Waiting is so. Dang. Hard.  Whether it’s waiting for a simple answer, a deadline, a friend, a vacation or even the world to change {thank you John Mayer}, waiting is tough.

If you’ve ever been like me, and waiting for the second line to appear in a HPT {Home Pregnancy Test} window, you know how tough it is to wait and you know the significance of that darn second line! You sit & wait.  You watch the clock.  You count down the seconds.  Your heart drops as the 3 minute mark passes and you think to yourself “maybe they meant 5 minutes on the instructions!” …all to say that even 20 minutes later, there is no second line.

One nasty thing I already knew about myself, I care way too much about schedules.  Changing my plans and/or schedule will wreak havoc in my life if I let it.  I sometimes think God just laughs at my feeble attempts to control the schedule of my life, all-the-while waiting on me to give it up!!

{can anyone feel me here?!}

This morning I was reflecting on the amazing things I’ve learned from the book of James through Beth Moore’s Mercy Triumphs, and I was brought back to this passage:

Pretty powerful stuff huh?  He keeps telling us that there’s something He’s not telling us…

{Hello?! Earth to Chrissi.}

So right there is the significance of the second line…or lack thereof…no second line means that there is something I don’t know.  {gulp} Something God is planning.  An ever present reminder that I need to align myself with His schedule, not my own.  He alone is in control.

Monday musings....and why I can't seem to focus

I can hear the words sweet whisperings of The Bangles singing "Manic Monday" in my head already...and it's not even 9:00am.

I am not a fan of Mondays.  I do not like saying goodbye to the weekend and putting my "work hat" back on to face the reality that I will be staring into this computer screen for about 45 hours over the next 5 days.  I get lost in a sea of deadlines and meetings, conference calls and emails… and then I remember all of the people who would do anything for a job.  Not a job they love and have dreamt of since childhood.  Nope.  Just a job.

{insert big ol’ humble pill I will now be choking on swallowing}

Pretty sure it’s time for an attitude adjustment.  Not only do I have a job, I like my job.  I enjoy being around my colleagues and feel blessed to be where I am, which then begs the question, why the unrest on a Monday morning?

I think it’s pretty simple…I am not choosing happiness.

I know I have shared this here before, but now is a perfect opportunity to share it again… When we were kids Dad would stand at the bus stop with us every morning and say a simple phrase.  We would moan and groan and mock him, but it stuck to each of us like glue:

Happiness is a choice.  Choose happiness.

There is so much in this life that we can’t control: Monday mornings, traffic, weather, other people’s attitudes… It is so easy to get lost in a sea of circumstances, most of which we can do nothing about.  I know, personally, it’s tough to face the day when all you want to do is stay in bed and cry or sleep or veg out on the sofa drinking red wine eating bonbons thinking about how tough you have it.  Life is tough sometimes, but in the end, we can choose to be happy or miserable. No one can make that choice for us.

So today, I may be tired and already dreaming of the upcoming weekend, but I am happy right where I am, in hopes that my joy will be contagious with the good people around me.  I hope you’ll join me in choosing happiness today, and always.

“…the joy of the lord is my strength” – Nehemiah 8:10

Make it a great day, friends!
